Mary (nee Schiener) Drumsta, age 95, of Tonawanda, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility in North Tonawanda. Born April 18, 1925 in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Schiener. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Buffalo State Teachers' College and taught in the North Tonawanda and Buffalo elementary schools. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and Outreach volunteer. Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, and spending summers fishing at her Canadian cottage.
She was the wife of 69 years of the late Peter P. Drumsta, who died April 13, 2016; mother of Peter J. Drumsta of New Rochelle, Katherine (Chester) Klimek of North Tonawanda, Jean (Gregory) Davis of Cedar Park, Texas, Michael Drumsta, and Raymond Drumsta of Albany. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a cousin, David Karnath of the Town of Tonawanda; and her lifelong friend, Margot Clements of San Francisco, California.
There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, September 26, at St. Francis Church, 150 Broad Street, Tonawanda. Friends invited (face coverings and social distancing required). The Mass will also have a live feed at www.stfrancistonawanda.org . Interment will be cared for privately at Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to St. Francis Outreach, 73 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.
