Joan C Russell

Joan C. Russell, age 88, of North Tonawanda, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023. Born in
Tonawanda to the late Ferdinand and Catherine Eberwein. Loving wife of the late Frederick Russell.
Sister of the late Catherine (Richard) Winters, and Fritz Eberwein. Cherished mother of Debra (William)
Jaeger, David Russell, and the late Jill Russell-Cahill. Grandmother of Mallory (John), Michael, Timothy,
Mary (Seth), and great grandmother to William. Best friend of Glenna Sternin.

Joan was an exceptional knitter, making gifts like blankets, washcloths and slippers. The sweater’s she
knitted were made with love and worn by many generations of children, grandchildren and friends.
Joan and Fred loved making chowder in their big copper kettle and sharing it with family and friends at
their famous chowder parties. Joan was a great cook and baker, her apple Danish, bread and butter
pickles and chili sauce are legendary and her recipes will live on with her family. She enjoyed decades of
bowling in the Tuesday Morning Gems league and having lunch with her high-school friends. She was an
amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, lovingly being referred to as “Mame” Joan. She
was loved by all who knew her because of her sense of humor, easy going way and her generosity. She
will live in our hearts forever.

No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation in Joan's honor
