John B. Hinkey, Sr., age 79, of Walhalla, South Carolina, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at his residence. Born August 10, 1940 in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Benjamin Hinkey and had been a resident of the City of Tonawanda. John served as an E-4 in the Army, retired from General Motors in Tonawanda, served as Chief of Police for the Town of Boston, New York, and was the former owner of S&J Tooling in Boston, NY.
He was a loving husband of 59 years to his wife, Evelyn Sue (nee Page) Hinkey; father of Susan Paulino of Boston, New York, John (Karen) Hinkey of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer (Mike) Goff, Sr. of Richmond, Virginia, and Wendy (Todd) Eichelberger of Snoqualmie, Washington; and grandfather of Jeffery Griffin, Jr., Cody Griffin, James Paulino, Shelby Paulino, Natalie Hinkey, Chloe Hinkey, Samantha Eichelberger, and Michael Goff, Jr..
Funeral service will be held privately at the request of the family at HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., Tonawanda, New York, followed by interment at Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island, New York. If desired, memorials may be made in his honor to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
